미얀마 내 무고한 아동과 시민의 죽음을 멈추기 위한
인도주의적 해결방안을 촉구하는 월드비전 성명서

월드비전은 아동과 민간인들의 생명을 앗아가는 미얀마 국내 폭력사태 확산에 따라 이들의 안전에 깊은 우려를 표합니다. 특히 우리는 취약 아동 및 주민에 대한 인도적 지원과 보호가 보장될 수 있도록 평화와 안정을 촉구합니다.

불안정한 상황이 장기화 될 경우 지난 수십 년 동안 미얀마 주민들을 돕기 위해 이뤄온 발전의 성과는 무너지고 말 것입니다. 또한 이러한 폭력사태는 아동과 지역주민들에게 심리적 트라우마와 신체적 폭력을 가함으로써 기존의 취약성을 가중시키고 생활고 및 빈곤을 심화시킬 것입니다.

이에 월드비전은 국제 인도주의법 기본원칙에 근거하여 현 사태에 대한 평화적 해결방안이 마련되기를 강력히 촉구합니다.

월드비전은 25년 동안 미얀마에서 현장사업을 수행해 왔으며, 50개 사업장에서 지역개발 및 인도주의 프로그램을 통해 2백만명 이상의 주민들에게 영향력을 끼치고 있습니다. 월드비전은 성별, 민족성, 종교에 대한 차별 없이 지역사회를 포괄적으로 지원해왔습니다.

또한 월드비전은 미얀마 아동들이 미래에 대한 희망을 품고 각자의 잠재력을 최대한 펼칠 수 있도록 가족과 주민들을 대상으로 생계회복을 지원하고, 식량 및 의료서비스에 대한 접근성을 개선하며, 교육에 투자하는 등 장기적인 관점에서 지속 가능한 발전을 도모해왔습니다.

World Vision urges humanitarian ceasefire as child
and civilian deaths escalate in Myanmar

World Vision is deeply concerned for the safety and well-being of children and civilians in Myanmar, following the escalation in violence which has since claimed the lives of children. We call for peace and the stability needed for continued humanitarian access and protection of the vulnerable, especially children.

We are deeply worried that protracted unrest in the country will reverse decades of development progress made in support of its people. We also fear that it will inflict severe psychological trauma and physical violence on children and communities, deepen existing vulnerabilities, and increase hardship and poverty.

We urgently call for a peaceful resolution that abides by the fundamental principles of international humanitarian law.

World Vision has been operating in Myanmar for 25 years and our work impacts over two million people through 50 development and humanitarian programmes. We serve all communities, regardless of gender, ethnicity and religion.

We are working to facilitate long-term sustainable development that helps families to restore livelihoods, improve food security, access health care, and invest in education so that children in Myanmar have hope for the future, and are able to live life to their fullest potential.
